Print Instructions for High Speed Copier Tabs, 20405, 20406, 20416

The Tabs for High Speed Copiers and Offset Printers are intended for professional-grade printers and presses and won't work on most inkjet printers.  The copier or press needs to be able to print to 9 x 11" paper.  Microsoft Word Templates are available at avery.com/templates.  These can't be printed using Avery Design & Print Online.

  1. In the template, replace the placeholder text with the information you want on each tab.
  2. In Microsoft Word, click on Page Layout tab and choose the Size tab.  Choose More Paper Sizes at the bottom of the menu, then use the Custom settings and enter 9” x 11”.User-added image
  3. Choose to print to a printer that supports 9” x 11” paper.  The dialog below is an Epson printer, but other print dialogs will be different.

  1. Click on the Properties or Preferences button to find the option to choose the Paper
  2. Choose Other Size and Advanced Paper Size.
  3. From the long menu, select  9” x 11” or enter those numbers in a custom field.  Leave all the other options the same.
  4. Also change the paper type to Cardstock and choose the manual feed or bypass tray.
  5. Get ready to print.  Use the Bypass tray, feed the paper tab-end first with the side to be printed face down and the tabs top tab on the bottom of the stack closest to the front of the printer (which seems counter-intuitive, but works for this Xerox.)  Test print using plain paper cut to 9” x 11” and draw where the tabs would go to get it right before you print the real product.
  6. You also need to change the paper settings on the printer itself.  Here’s a Xerox setting, but also choose Cardstock as the type to make it easier for the printer to pull it through.
