Avery Marks-A-Lot Markers are intended to be permanent. But we understand that accidents happen, so here are some tips to try to remove the ink.
If you wrote on a whiteboard with a permanent marker, try covering the writing with a removable whiteboard marker and then erasing.
On other surfaces, the ability to cleanly and safely remove the ink will be highly dependent on the surface. Plastic is the most likely surface for successful removal. If the marker ink has been used across a pre-printed area, there is a high likelihood that the cleaning options below will also remove the print or color underneath.
Note: It’s important to test any cleaning solutions in a small area that won’t be noticed if it causes discoloration or damage.
First Option: The mildest option, readily available in most homes, is IsoPropyl Alcohol. As mentioned above, first test in a small area. Use a clean (preferably plain white) paper towel. Soak a small portion of the paper towel with IsoPropyl Alcohol and rub on the marker ink. If this removes the ink without damaging the surface, you can continue. It may take a few times to clean all of the ink. Continue using clean portions of the paper towel until clean.
Second Option: If this does not work, the next readily available option is Acetone (primary component of nail polish remover). Use the same process, but take even more care as Acetone is a much stronger solvent than alcohol.
We’re sorry, but if the marker ink has absorbed into the surface, it may be impossible to remove.
